An outing and a concert

Well, the Spring sunshine is beckoning. We have two events to entice you over the next month: the first being an outing with guided tour on Friday 21st March (Members only) to a historic Guild church in Guildhall Yard, designed by Christopher Wren in 1670, with strong connections to Valentines.

If you aren’t a Member of the Friends yet, what are you waiting for? Just get in touch and we will send you details of how to join, though the Support Us Page is another way.

There is so much more to discover about this church and its Valentines’ connections, as well as the area itself “next Guildhall”.

The only church stained glass window in London with an image of Sir Christopher Wren

One of the most popular windows in the church is tucked away at the back in the vestibule. In the centre is Christopher Wren, architect of the 1677 church. With him are his Master Carver, Grinling Gibbons, and his Master Mason, Edward Strong.

The Jazz Concert

The second event coming up is a jazz concert at Valentines on 1st April 7.30pm. This can be booked by telephone or online, but hurry! Tickets are selling fast! What could be better than a relaxing Spring evening in the beautiful surroundings of our Grade II* listed mansion, listening to live jazz?

Music is from Ienne Hunter, Gabriel Keen, Alex Keen and singer Catherine Lima.

Doors open 7pm.  Easy parking or excellent public transport links (bus, tube or Elizabeth Line) and refreshments are included in the ticket price of £12.

Open Every Day

If you’d like to make an impromptu visit to Valentines, open every day of the week is the Gardener’s Cottage Cafe in one of the beautiful walled gardens adjacent to the Dovecote opposite the main entrance to the mansion. Members of the Friends meet there regularly on 3rd Tuesday of every month at 10.30am and other times in between.

You might even spot the Victorian Gardener himself! Mr Bunn! aka one of our members John. You can read more about the Cafe here. There are always innovations, such as open air film screening started last Autumn. Watch this space! The monthly open air music starts up again on Sunday 13th April 2025.
